DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE
what are the sanctions of driving in a state of intoxification
| For driving with the concentration of alcohol in the blood from 0.5 to 1.2 pro mls ascertained by the medical test, Drivers with under 2 yrs driving experience will be suspension of your licence for a period of 1 year and a fine from 300 to 600 Leva. In case of second infringement the fien is 1000 to 2000 Leva and suspension of your licence for 3 years. For driving with a concentration of more than 1.2 pro mls the law will provide a prison sentence of 2 years |
| For driving with the concentration of 0.5 to 1.2 pro mls for drivers with more than 2 years experience the fine is 200 to 500 Leva and suspension of your licence for the period of up to 1 year. In case of second infringement the fine is 1000 to 2000 Leva For driving with a concentration of more than 1.2 pro mls the law will provide a prison sentence of 2 years |
| In the case of you refusing to take the alcohol or narcotic tests the fine will be 500 to 1000 Leva and the suspension of your licence form 12 to 18 Months. |
On a driver exceeding the speed limits for the second time by over 31km/h a fine of up to 300 leva will be imposed and suspension of your licence for a period of 3 Months.
Foreign citizens travelling or transiting within the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria shall pay the respective fine Immediately.
If you are resident in Bulgaria you will recieve a letter with instructions about your Fine and or suspension shortly after the offence of being caught.
where you will then be required to submit your licence in the event of suspension to the relevant authorities.
